Where are the dogs kept?  Dogs are kept in their own individual indoor area (4' by 13') connected by their own individual doorway to their own individual outdoor area (4' by 18') which is covered.

Are you open Sundays? Yes, we are open Sunday from 7AM until 11AM and again from 5PM until 7PM except holidays listed on the website, Holidays were are only open in the AM, not the PM.

Are you open Holidays? We are open in the morning (7AM until 11Am) holidays and every day of the year. On holidays, we are CLOSED in the evening, in other words on holidays, we don't open from 5PM until 7PM. Holidays include: New Years day and Eve, Christmas day and Eve, Memorial day, July 4th, Labor day, Thanksgiving, Easter Sunday, Passover, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Chanukah, Yom Kippur, and Rosh Hashanah.

When do I pay? You pay when you pick up the dog. Your reservation deposit will be deducted at that time.

Can I pay by check?  Sorry, but we DO NOT ACCEPT CHECKS, we do accept the following: Cash (3% discount for cash), any major credit card,  money orders, and travelers checks.

Is there a discount for cash?  Yes, and there is a 3% discount for payment in cash.

Does anyone play with my dog, does he get human attention? Yes, we live at the kennel and go and check on, and play with, and give treats to the dogs many times throughout the day and evening.

Is my dog going to be in a cage? No, except for a short time after it's bath so it can be dried.

How big are the runs? The inside area is 4 feet by 13 feet, that's 52 square feet inside, AND they have 4 foot by 18 foot outside area, that's 72 square feet outside, for a total of 124 square feet for each dog.

How many times a day do they go outside? Whenever it's over 60 degrees outside, we leave the doors open so the dogs can come and go. Generally in the summer the door are open all day. In colder weather we close the doors to keep the heat inside and then we let the dogs go outside 5 times per day, about every 4 hours during the day. The colder it is outside, the shorter the time we leave them out.

Is the kennel heated and air conditioned? Yes, the kennels have RADIANT HEAT. This is a huge improvement in kennel design. Radiant heated floors mean the dog is lying in warm dry floors, cozy and toasty! Yes, in summer we have powerful ventilation fans and air conditioning.

Are they kept outside? No, every dog has his or her own individual, private indoor area. However, if your dog is an outdoor dog and you request more time outside or that they stay outside because that's what they are accustomed to, we can accommodate this.

Does anyone live at the kennel?  Yes, the owners, Sandy and Smitty, live at the kennel, our house is attached to the kennel.

Can I change a reservation? Yes, you can just call and leave a message. All reservations are very flexible. If you are picking up early and ordered grooming, then you should try to give us as much notice as possible to have time to get your dog bathed and dried. Picking up later then scheduled (during our open hours) is no problem.

Is anyone there when you're closed?  Yes, we live at the kennel so your dog has owner/operator supervision 24/7!

Can I pick-up or drop-off when you're closed? Maybe. We will permit drop offs and pick ups at extra cost, if we are available. There is no guarantee that it will be possible, and there are no appointments. We are sorry that this might not be convenient for you,  but if you need a definite appointment, then you will have to come during our regular schedule hours.

Do I need an appointment to pick up or drop off?  No, you may pick up or drop off during our "open" hours, as long as you have a reservation.

How do I make a reservation?  Call us at 631-345-0000.  If you are a previous customer then just leave your name and dates and you are set. If you are a first timer at Smitty's, then you will need to leave a $25/dog deposit. The deposit is applied to your boarding bill, but is NOT REFUNDABLE, if you cancel, we hold the deposit to be credited to any future boarding bill you have at Smittys.  If you get the voice mail machine, press 9 and leave the following info on the message:

Name    -    Phone #    -    Dates to board    -    State that you understand that the deposit is NOT refundable    -    Credit Card number    -   Credit Card Expiration Date    -    Three or four digit code on the card    -    Zip code the credit card bills go to.

We will call you back to confirm.
