We are Smitty’s Kennels in Middle Island. We are looking for someone who would be full time, pemanent to work with horses and dogs who has had solid work experience at a dog boarding kennel or at a horse farm.

This is a great employment opportunity if you love working with animals, but that's not enough! This is dirty physical work. We are looking for someone who has,  or is now working at a kennel or farm, and is looking for a position with a promotion to working manager with more responsibility and higher pay.

Duties would include picking up kennels, bathing dogs, picking up paddocks and stalls, power washing kennels, feeding and watering dogs and horses and haying horses, and general cleaning of the whole place.  As a manager, duties would include; waiting on customers, taking in boarders, sending home boarders, doing the associated paperwork and figuring out the bills, checking shot records, dealing with customers.

We work MORE hours during the weeklong school holidays and weekends in the summer, since this is when we are extra busy. We don not take holidays as days off.  We need part time help holidays and weekends in the summer. Days off during the week are easily available. Occasional weekend days off are possible. We usually work from about 7 AM until about noon but we need someone who is flexible on working hours. Sometimes you would have to come back at 5PM for a couple hours.

We also have a very nice, big, apartment on site. It would be included in the salary for a manager if needed. Before we would let anyone move into the apartment, we would do extensive background and credit checks and you would have to submit to drug testing.

Salary starts commensurate with experience, and will increase according to your mastery of the job, dependability, dedication, and work speed. Our starting salary is $13/hour. We give regular raises, health benefits, and the apartment if you want it and qualify. During most of the year, there is barely 40 hours/week of work to do. Whenever school is on vacation, there is much more work to do and we hire extra help.
